Come join us as Jerry Martin presents and leads a discussion on the following:
Title: “Flying Backwards: The Birth of Official German Air Mail”On May 19, 1912, specially-printed postcards were flown between Heidelberg and Mannheim, marking the first fully official forwarding of mail by air in Germany. In this presentation, we offer conjectures and inferences on various aspects of the event, supported where possible by philatelic evidence.

PIPEX is ON!!
The Germany Philatelic Society is going to Portland! The show has found a new venue for 2022, necessitated by the unavailability of the main hall at the old venue. It will take place on the same dates, April 29 and 30 and May 1 at the at Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Airport. It is at 82nd Ave. NE and Airport Way, just down the street from the airport itself. The hotel has an airport shuttle and is right next to a major shopping destination and a light rail stop for those who wish to explore the city. Note however that the deadline for exhibiting for priority for the convening societies is February 12. The new venue will have a smaller exhibit space, so it is important to get your entries in as soon as possible. We are also looking for members to give talks and hold seminars, as we did in Chicago in November. For more information, see http://www.pipexstampshow.org/. For more information on presenting a talk or seminar, contact Convention Chair Ken Gilbert at kgilbert78 (at) att.net, again, as soon as possible. Note that the venue is by the airport, well away from downtown where protests have taken place, so it will be a safe and comfortable venue for our National Meeting. We will also have a Friday dinner, tentatively at a local German restaurant, a board meeting, and an open membership meeting. We are especially hoping to see a lot of our members from the Pacific Northwest attending the show.
