GERMANY PHILATELIC SOCIETY

GPS PRESS RELEASE

GPS NATIONAL PRESS RELEASE - April 4, 2009

The Germany Philatelic Society regrets to announce the demise of Albert F.W. Jaeger, GPS Society President from 1989 – 1997, on March 27, from pneumonia in Tryon, North Carolina. ‘Al’, as he was known, was a few weeks short of his 91st birthday. Born in Monson, Massachusetts to German immigrant parents, Al had a dynamic and successful educational, professional and personal life and leaves his wife of forty-nine years, six children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In 1943, for the Army Air Force, Al developed a specialty glazed cotton yarn for use in aircraft wiring insulation. After World War II, he established, owned and operated his own successful company, Carolina Yarn Processors. Until his demise, Al was a serious philatelist, postal historian and supporter of the Germany Philatelic Society, where he established the GPS Carolina Chapter in addition to being our two-term president. Needless to say, the Germany Philatelic Society will miss our friend Al, his infectious smile as well as his participation in GPS events. Services have been held.
